Good program but you have 2 be dedicated to catching trout and letting them go!!! Lots of guys want 2 get involved and thinks it would be cool to do!! It is but before you decide to get involved in tagging ask yourself this!!

How much time are you going to give? Can you just go out and tag and release trout? How many trout do you catch a year? My goal is to tag atleast 500 a year but I think any one who gets involved should shoot for 100 trout per year!!! I love 2 see guys get involved in this just don't like to see tags go to waist....

We have about 20 people in our club who tag fish. I like it because I hate to clean fish. And I only seem to catch dinks.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE TAGGING PROGRAM is:

If you catch a tagged fish, write down the info from tag, get quick measurement on fish and RELEASE! Tagged fish make up such a minority that they need to stay out there. That is the purpose of tagging the fish. To track their movements and growth.

The way we do it is who ever catch a fish the other measure it and tag the fish and let it go... Its fast this way.... And we fill out the info at the house.... All we put on the tag at the time of tagging the fish is the lenth and the weight....

Chas, I personally think that is the message that is not getting out to the "John Q Public" fisherman. They catch a tagged fish and think of it as a banded duck and harvest the fish. We need to start a media campaign around the area boat launches to CPR, but get a weight and length also! Maybe we can get some signs donated.

I think it would be a cool project for Saltycajun to partner up with LDWF to get a campaign started, so how about it. Lara Ballard is at LDWF now, and I am at their office almost 2-3 times a month. I could get the ball rolling on this pretty easy. Thoughts and imput from the SC crew????

We have some around most launches around SWLA pertaining to the LSU tagging study, saying please release!

Ask Lara or Mandi for some signs saying the same for all tagged fish. It should be very easy. I'll help you get em around SWLA.

The cool stories are of the ones like I've heard from a redfish that was recaptured about 10 times and released each time. Travelled from FL all the way to LA and waas said to be very old.

This is what we need........Out of all the ones I had recaptured their has only been 3 released......All the rest of them about (20 or so) were eaten..... I had a lot this summer caught by guide services....I wish they would tell there customs to release all tagged trout
