The jetties are money every time. It is the closest thing you can come to a sure thing in fishing, especially if you can make it out one of the cuts. I have a 16' aluminum boat, and I almost always find a spot to catch fish. You have to be careful and pay attention, but in a 16' boat, it's not a big deal unless you do something stupid.

If the swells are too big near the end or through the cuts, the green channel marker across from the east side launch is a great spot. Odds are you can fish the inside in the morning, and then move outside as the moderate north winds gives the swell from today's s winds a chance to die down.

I wouldn't say def hit the reds, we had 5 guides up there Friday, combined 8 fish from up in lake Charles and prien. Wind was bad, water was dirty, fishing for ghost.

not trying to sound cocky but there are plenty of reds in prien area, i've never had a problem catching reds at any time of year there...in the past month or so i've caught limits every trip out along with flounder and a few specks here and there..

All I've been fishin is matrix shad and white gulp shrimp, early morning start fishing dropoffs near shallow areas then when it warms up fish shallower water, low tide grasslines for reds and high tide theyll be up in the shallow areas, flounder stick to the same areas so once you catch one in an area comb the spot out and there should be a few more just gotta get em to eat your bait

baitfish are small right now from what i've seen thats why ive been using matrix its a perfect size small bait with alot of action, another month topwater should be good, they hit it now but not like they'll be hitting it when the good bite turns on

Bull reds are easier at the jetties:

1. Attach cracked crab or cut mullet to an appropriate size hook, 6/0 - 10/0. Crab is better.

2. Use enough weight to reach bottom in given current.

3. Keep slightly off bottom in channel to reduce snags. Can be on bottom in areas that are not rocky.

4. Hold on.

See the attached map for some of our favorite spots.

Can you run anywhere in Prien or are there some areas to watch out for?
