Default Repowering with Tohatsu 40 4 stroke

I currently run a 2 stroke 40 merc which has 60 carbs and ported on a 1650 Xpress. I run low 40's with a full fishing load. Thinking about buying a 4 stroke 40 Tohatsu. What kind of speed could I expect with this motor? What prop should I run? I'm sure I'd lose some speed, but the fuel economy and quietness would offset a little speed loss. I would hate to drop six grand and regret it so I'm looking for everyone's experience.

I've got custom decks in my 16x48 which added a lot of weight. I run about 34mph fully loaded with 12 gallons of gas, ice, gear and 2 people. I run a 15p power tech I believe. Fuel economy is great. When I finally hit the 3/4 break in, I ran from Cal pt to south entrance of West cove, to steam engine, back to west cove, to black lake then back to Cal point all on ~6 gallons of gas. 60+ miles.

Can't you do a little carb work and make that 40 a 50?

What kind of prices are you seeing on a 40 tiller? www.backwoodslanding.com/40-60HP.html) has the 40 Tiller for $5195

i had the 2016 tohatsu 40 4 stroke with restrictor pulled before I put a mercury back on my 656 edge. It would run 40mph flat with a 16p srd prop turning about 5900 rpm with 2 people and full fishing load. I wouldn't run that prop in the marsh.

Preliminary run yesterday was 39mph turning a 16 pitch Yamaha. Still need to lift motor a little. Can't really spend much time testing now. Taking care of sick wife. But I am pleased with the first test run. Just have to wire a remote trim switch. Piss poor design if you ask me.
