Default Suggestions on clearing a field

I have about 3/4 of an acre fenced off on the back of my property that has OVERGROWN to say the least. Before fencing it off I hauled about 20 loads of dirt back there just incase I would need it. Now I would like to clear that section out and spread the dirt in my pasture and possibly move in some sheep. My problem is the grass is almost taller than my house so I don't want to put the tractor in there. I cant burn it because a pipeline runs diagonally across the piece, although that's a quick way to get the pond I always wanted if it blows!!. Is there any good sprays out there I can buy to kill it or is there anybody on here that has a license that can get some "good stuff" to take care of my problem? I'm open to any creative ideas.

The quick quarter always has adds for bushoggingand tractor work. Usually a 2 or 3 hr minimum on jobs. That may be worth paying for the first cutting. If not get with a local farmer for getting a little poison. Jsammich can probably tell you what is the best chemical to use.

If you kill it you will have to plant something back or wait along time for grass to come back. I would find someone with a decent size tractor to come knock it down and then disc it to chop grass up.

I live between Scott and Duson. My old man has several tractors I can use, I've just had to replace too many gear boxes and yokes because they always seem to "finish" breaking when I use them!! I need to clean the field so I can complete the fence to put the sheep in, but it will only be a few sheep at first. They're more for pets for my little boy, and bow practice when he gets a little bigger!

What is growing, trees, sapplings, or weeds and grass? Knowing that I could assist with a suggestion or two. I used to spray right of way, and there is stuff that will kill broad leaf only but not kill out grass, or there is stuff I used to put in Sub Stations and grass never returned, it smoked everything, for years.

Is it thick underbrush or just tall Bahia grass? If its just Bahia, I second bushhogging.

And as mentioned above, be careful about what you spray. Otherwise you'll have that 3/4 acre lookin like the moon.

I haven't walked through it, but what I can tell it's just grass and weeds. I'll probably just try and bush hog it this afternoon real slow and hope it doesn't break anything. The pipeline company used to keep it cut, but I haven't seen them in a while. Thanks anyways Meaux!

If the pipeline company is not clearing it, they may have abandoned the line. May be worth a call to them. Tell them if they don't mow it, you going to burn it. Should get them there.

Haha! I doubt they abandoned it. It's a main line they just replaced about 8 years ago. I might try it, but if I get arrested for terrorism SaltyCajun better pass the hat for bail money!! Apparently you can keep your phone in LPCC so I'll keep you posted from inside!

I 2nd this. I would definitely try to get them to do it, even if they just do a portion of it it's that much less you need to worry about breaking stuff on! lol

If you trying to bush hog around 20 loads of dirt you going to have some problems.

Rent a dozer for a weekend and knock it down and spread your dirt all in one shot.
