same boat i have except mines an '01....never had a problem with my motor yet. Had it for a little over two years.

The merc inline 4 is a pretty good motor,just not so good on a bay boat.Mainly because it's a 2+2 meaning it only runs on 2cyls untill the motor gets to 2,000rpms.They do get pretty good fuel mileage though.......
