The parasites are just a part of doing business with the larger specimens of pogonias cromis. My brother just fillets them and fries them up, explaining that they sort of disappear in the frying process. My wife cuts the parasites out when trimming the meat. My family has been enthusiastic drum consumers since the 1970's. The parasites in the specimen in the picture were not very bad at all.

I've never seen the parasites in the smaller specimens.

The drum only went 14.5 lbs. The redfish went 17.5 lbs. I wasn't thinking bass, just that I didn't want to risk cutting my hand on the gill.

Maybe it was subliminal, and I'm a frustrated bass fisherman pretending that the big ugly is a LMB
