Default Off to a bad start

well last week me and the ol lady went to look at a van. Advertised for 6000. We get to the lot and tell them we're interested. Then surprisingly they say the price was wrong and its 6500. Well we tell them we'll think about it. So we call them back a week later and tell them we don't wanna spend more than 5000. Well he says to come to in and look at the van. Well he offers it to us for 5000 out the door so we jump on it. Bought it saturday. Now monday morning the check engine light came on while my wife was on her way to work. Hopefully its something small.... Won't know till her lunch break.

what make and model? Could be as simple as emission sensor, may take it by parts store and get a general diagnostic run to get alittle better idea of whats goin on.

Did you buy this vehicle from a dealer or an individual? If it is from a dealer, you should be able to unwind on the deal if it hasn't been 72 hrs. Go get it checked immediately and, if it's something big, get it back to them!

You have a 3 day return law in La. Get it checked now and if it's some thing big take it straight back to the place you bought it. If he gives you any lip about the law call 342-7876. Attorney generals office ask for consumer protection section. let them explain it.
But you only have 72 hrs from purchase so do it NOW.

Car Fax is crap, it is only as good as the information that is entered in to the system. For instance, the report says on this day the car was brought in to be serviced for routine maintenance, when in actuallity it was brought in because it was wrecked and needed repairs. A report is only as good as the information entered in the system.

Don't think it happens, think again. Just another money making scam.

H2O, not starting an argument but, your info isn't 100% accurate. Carfax can tell you where it was hit, the approx date, type of damage (mild moderate or, severe) and whether or not airbags were deployed. Now, if its wrecked and an individual pays it out of pocket, I don't have the ability to report it. If an insurance co pays it, 99% of your good providers will report it.

That being said, if we didn't have hack shops, we wouldn't even need carfax!

this info is accurate, I got carfax on my truck before I bought it and it helped me negotiate the price down because it was in 3 minor accidents.

I'm sure its out there. I know it is but, carfax is likely as good as you are going to find. They can only report what is reported to them but, it is a bit tough since independent shops can't report to them. In short, insurance co's are the only ones who can.

Glad they were honest and entered the accidents in the system, that is the way it should work, and you were able to benefit, congrats.
