Cheers 2 Day fishing report... Big Lake and Offshore Rollover

Been in from offshore for a week and finally had a couple days to do some fishing. Was hoping to go hit the surf in GI, but made some calls and heard that the surf was dirty. So packed up the boat and hit Big Lake yesterday. Started in Turners and threw plastics on some reefs...NODDA! Drifted away from the crowd and had some birds start working near me, so got on them and uggh bull reds... Worked another set of birds and did not get a single hit, was really getting frustrated at this point because its 8:00 and the ice had not been broken, and the crowds were getting worse. Decided to go hit a redfish honey hole and get away from the crowds, but as i was leaving noticed some birds sitting on the water, so checked it out and caught the lone speck of the day. Got to my redfish hole and it was non stop for and hour, probably released about 30 fish. Man that was just what I needed. Got off the water at 10 and headed back to laffayette to re-group for a trip to Pecan Island.

Launched at Rollover and headed SE to some rigs, hopped around several rigs in 25 ft of water and could not buy a bite... Decided maybe we were too deep so headed in a little ways to some wellheads in 10 ft of water, and scratched out a few. Tough tough day, but man was it good to be on the water. Caught the trout on plastics, had a live well with shrimp, pogeys, and mullet, nothing but turd hustlers on the live bait.. I was able to yank 2 trippletail out the rig tho on live shrimp free lined. Man glad I brought the Penn850 for ling...Pulled those fish out the legs no probs!

All in all just what the dr. ordered, a couple of nice days on the water, and a little meat in the box!

Good report from rollover. Kind of wondering about the OS rigs myself. Need 3-4 more weeks I'm guessing for better chances. My old rule of thumb used to be wait till mid June before hitting the OS stuff for specs, otherwise it's hit or miss. Further East it's just Gaft Top city early on.

Yeah, had been hearing some good reports from Tee Butte and SMI, so decided to give the rigs farther west a shot. Maybe they were there and was just a slow bite in morning?? I had friends fishing Tee Butte yesterday morning and said that it was pretty bleak. BTW, water was beautiful in the morning, after lunch the dingy brown water came pushing west in a hurry. East winds suck for this side.
