4 deer from our lease
The other pic is of our new hunting lodge our land owner built for us. Man, I could live there all year long. |

yes, my son, Garrett, shot that deer. Here's the story. We were sitting in our blind Tuesday AM. Deer walks out around 7:15. I immediately knew it was a shooter buck and told him to get his rifle up as soon as they put their heads down. Well, they did and he did. The buck walked around a bit and finally, after about 5 minutes gave him the broadside shot he was trained to wait for. The whole time I am looking through binoculars giving him instructions to "wait', "now", "no, wait", etc. I had a severe case of buck fever and my heart beat so hard and fast the I could barely hold the binocs still. So, shot finally executed: "Bang"! Deer looks up, and calmy jogs off. DAMN! We thought sure miss! Deer usually buck or jump when shot. Not this guy, he just walked off. Saw dust fly behind deer after shot. We were both dissapointed and I was giving him the old talking to about a miss is not as bad as wounding, etc. He was really down on himself. Well after about 10 minutes I decided to get out of blind to look for blood. As we walked up the trail off to my right I saw the deer laying there. It ran exactly 15 yards and died behind a cedar tree. Shot just behind right shoulder, through both lungs. PERFECT SHOT! I let out a scream that my buddies heard from the next blind -- over 750 yards! High fives and hugs for me and my son! Proud moment!

New Pic
Just found this pic on my camera. Forgot I took it. It was taken just prior to my son shooting his buck. Feeder is about 85 yards away from blind.

that's surely some fine deer and a fine camp. We are further west in Eldorado and did not fair so well this yr, our place has looked like January all summer long without any rain we lost all the crops and grass that our deer live on and our herd is no place to be found.

Fortunately we are high fenced with a full time protein program and 4 water troughs spread across our property. Deer are still about 10 lbs lighter than they should be and horn mass is not quite what it should be but thankfully we fared better than most low fence ranches. Cost a lot more but we only get to go about 2-3 times per year and want to maximize our efforts and they sure paid off this year. Neighbor low fence ranch has not seen a rack buck much less a few does and spikes. |

Very nice. We got off of our lease just southeast of Laredo due to it being too close to Mexico. My dad wants to find a new place to bring kids to and just too nervous bringing kids out there. We are only 7-10 miles as the crow flies from MX. And have seen some pretty weird stuff out there. I would sleep with a loaded gun in the bed with me.
