Default V-Bay Fishing Tips

I have been fishing v-bay for a couple of years now and still have trouble finding fish. I was woundering if anyone new about any spots beside the popular ones, tee butte, diamond reef, reefs in the pass. I catch fish there but not many and not often. So any tips you guys have would be very helpful. Thanks

With the high river water in the area it will be tough. You can catch redfish and catfish fishing the north shore of marsh island. Fish east and west of bird island bayou (game warden camp). Fish gulp or shrimp under a loud rattle cork and carolina rigged shrimp and finger mullet in the bayous and drains. Will be several months before trout get right in the area. Usually june the water starts getting better depending on the river level. It's not the most sporting like fishing but sometimes it beats driving 100 plus miles pulling the boat to the east or west.

Depends on the type of fish you are targeting and the time of year you are fishing. For myself, the fall bite in the bay has always been very productive. Also you need to monitor the salinity level in the bay. I had numerous trip this fall when we caught our limit in weeks bay, and Hammock. The Cove can be very productive, however it can get rather crowded for such a small area. Please do not take this comment the wrong way, but knowing how to fish can be very helpful....not running your motor over the area you want to fish. Using the wind and current to your advantage, looking for baitfish and clean water. The bay can be hit or missed for a lot anglers, however spending time on the water and learning the area, has always been the trick for me. Good luck and tight line......if you see "The Reel Deal" say hello

great info there... learn how to drift a reef using minimal trolling motor and never throw your anchor. It doesnt help it set better

Definitely no anchor throw contest....easy way to kill the bite and piss someone off.

I wish I was around before wax lake outlet was dug when the bay stayed good year round. We have the biggest bay system on the louisiana coast but it is a late summer to early winter fishery. This past fall was good never seen so much shrimp being busted. Caught alot of trout right by the avery canal away from the madhouse at the trash pile.

Correct!

Do you know when it happened to dig lake outlet out to flow freshwater from a river into the bay?

To divert the flow of the atchafalaya river to help coastal community's from flooding during high river stages.

Mouton, you have a better chance at catching fish in clean water. make sure to check the latest satellite photos before you hit the water. this will give you a better idea of areas to try. Here is the link.

I went last weekend and found stained water on the north west end of Marsh Island. wind was blowing 20+ so we anchored at the mouth of the canal and caught some fish, mostly black drum. we managed to catch 1 spec to my surprise.

Goin back tomorrow...
