Default Prop help!!

I currently have a 22' skeeter bay and would like to change out the factory 3 blade to a 4. Boats hole shot isn't that great and is very sluggish in docking situations. I believe a four blade can help just know nothing about prop pitches or brands. Defiantly not concerned with speed! Oh and the motor is a yam hpdi vmax 250. Any advice would help. Thanks

4 blade is not needed. My dad had the exact same boat and motor. Get you a genuine yamaha pro series 21 pitch. Your motor height could be your problem as well if it is too low creating drag.

Yes I do have trim tabs, but have no clue about the pitch. It's just the factory three blade that came with the motor. I'll have to do a little research. My main concern is maneuvering this boat in very tight areas with out too much delay in steering.

size and pitch are stamped on the prop... listen to Montauk he knows what hes talking about. Do you have a jack plate? I find if my jackplate is all the way up its harder to steer at idle in tight spaces

Montauk,
Will this prop you suggested work better for me in idle maneuvers for docking in tight quarters?

No prop will make maneuvering better...more throttle and time behind the wheel does though. A 4 blade is mostly hype....only time I find a 4 blade useful is with a tunnel hull or running the motor super high on a jack plate. 4 blade will not give you a better holeshot, the right pitch will. Like I mentioned my dad had the exact same setup with a yamaha pro series 21 pitch and got great holeshot and topped out at 63-65 mph

good info!! also, you may be able to repitch your prop down some and that will give you a little more snap when getting on step.

What prop are you running now? I know you said the factory prop but the factory does not install the prop, the dealer does.

Looks like it reads 10-25m. This is all that's stamped into the prop. This is a second hand boat so I have no idea what brand it is so ill just call it factory
