I had read somewhere that you are not allowed to use a kayak at Rockerfeller. Call Warden HQ to verify

I wouldn't want to cross a tug boat with barge while in a kayak.

Better off going down to cocodrie, dulac, GI ares and just take off from the side of the road.

The only place I have seen someone in a Yak out there was in the canal directly across from the North entrance of the Bertrand Canal but I'm willing to bet the guy in the boat worked for the state. I think that canal is pretty shallow.

If you can yak their per the rules, roll with it. I'd yak that place front to back.

I'm pretty sure it is against refuge rules. I wouldn't want to be in those canals when the tide starts ripping out either, trust me. I've been in some hairy spots in the yak because of the tide.

I don't see anything on this list, maybe there's one that's more in depth?

Canoeing/Kayaking is not allowed on the refuge but St. Rep Stephen Ortego just introduced a bill to allow kayaks - so you may be allowed to do it in the near future. It would be easy to get in some good redfish ponds out there.
From the LDWF Website, Particular to Rockefeller: ''Non-compatible Uses Along with hunting and commercial fishing, RWR considers other activities to be not compatible with the goals/mission of the refuge. Non-compatible uses include overnight camping, horseback riding, ATV riding, geocaching, commercial guiding/tours, swimming, and canoeing/kayaking on the refuge. The latter two are primarily for safety reasons due to the abundance of alligators and the potential for negative interactions with large alligators.'' |

Sometime yes, but really like my offshore boat she can draft shallow water but I don't dare take it in anything less then 3ft of water

How about this? We take your boat and kayak. I'll drop you off in the yak where ever you want and take your boat to the rigs for trout. When your done getting harassed by gators ill pick you up. All on your dime, problem solved.

this
there are some very large fishing and workboats that use that ramp and I have seen several large offshore boats park by the weirs and catch bait and then head out. Canals are plenty deep, but watch the end of the ramp, it falls off |
