Screen on the left is the normal sonar. Screen on the right and bottom is the side scan. The "pipe" in the middle separates the left view from the right view.

Looks like the top pic is rocks and the bottom is of a ditch and a bulkhead.

The middle line is the boat/wash. And the way you is the boat is top center and everything below is what has been scanned/history.
another way to look ut. if your face down in the water looking striaght down at the bottom , then your looking to the left and right. Is how to interpret the image id say Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk |

There isnt any fish in that pic. It just general screen shot. But if there were fish you would see white spots which are fish. Look at this pic of fish.
the fish are 10ft below the boat and spread out 40ft out to the side uploadfromtaptalk1395258011169.jpg Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk |

Look at the second pic, very bottom shot. See the numbers at the bottom? Go to the right of 0 out to 20' and you'll see the bulkhead. Now, if this weren't visible from above because of the pier (say rocks, or logs, or ditch) you could identify it on your side scan. If there are fish suspended you can see them too. I've picked up gators laying on bottom in shallow water, lay downs in canals, outcrops of cover off of platforms that I never even knew were there. It paints the bottom, and you can't say that's not useful when fishing. I guess dragging your anchor would be the old school way, but side scan is way quicker and more bad a$$ |

Your side scan only shows accurate images between 3 and 10 mph. Going 1.8 everything will look distorted (unclear) bc its pinging off of the object too many times.

Yep, notice the top and bottom screens, they are running at 2 different speeds. the 1st pic, the rocks look normal in the big screen but a bit distorted in the little. the 2nd pic at 1.8, the little screen looks normal but the big is distorted.
