MY guess is the "paint" chipped off.
That bait has caught many a trout in the surf. |

Looks like chrome paint underneath. If so, it could have very well chipped, as Mr. Gerald said, but, the circle is kinda too perfect for that. Dunno, ain't never see that, either. But, I do know that paint will turn loose from a chrome finish. Hey, if it works...I wouldn't change a thing.

my dad loves those baits. I think the spot is just a defect though

Mystery Spot
Thanks for the comments gents, see the thing is there is no indication there was any paint there to wear off, and there is no abrasion on the surface where the paint would be. It's as smooth as the rest of it, and yes the circle looks too perfect. When it jerks, the mirrored (chrome?) surface a layer below it turns on like a strobe light (need good sun light and clear water, which I had). I'm pretty sure my dad used it in his trips to Grand Isle where he would surf fish, and in fact those are the same shoes he wore, which I had found in his closet and for some nostalgic reason also decided to wear, so it was kind of a cool retro fishing trip and the last pic is sort of my father's day present to.......well, myself, I guess.
And I thought Jupiter's spot was a mystery |
