call all you want and lets put your paycheck on it too, anytime anywhere

1998 chevy 1500 Silverado 2wd short wheel base fully loaded with power everything and small block 350 5.7 with EFI and towing package, doesn't smoke and gets the same mileage as new.

if you try to look it up today, most websites says it got 14 city and 18 hwy but they must be based on using using different gearing because I am the original owner of the truck and as sold the mileage sticker was 19 city and 21 hwy and that's still what I get today (+/- 1mpg) with 120,000 miles on it. I get 18 and 21 puling a 17x 52 flatboat around (+/- 1mpg).

the only bad thing is the transmission blew up at 100,000 miles as they always do (that's a $2,800 rebuild) and I just had to replace those stupid plastic intake manifold gaskets they used that always start to leak after 90,000-100,000 miles so that's another $1,000 repair.

I use the trip meter all the time and check mpg at every fill up so I know if something is wrong. the k & n air filter replacement did bump it up to 19/21 from 18/20 I was getting with the original stock paper style filter so if I had done that from new I might have gotten better then 19/21 when it was new. having a better air filter does make a difference.

I did it once but blew a tire so I stopped.

I love my truck. 4x4
70k on it 305/55 tires
low 15 to high 15mpg in town depending how crazy I get.
18.5 staying under 75
11-12 towing at 70
13.5 at 60

Nothing crazy just a good solid truck.

I have the 3.5L ECO 4X4 crew cab and I averaged 16 mpg. However once I hit around 20K mileage it has increased to 18.5mpg now.
Pulling my 22' bay boat at 65-70mph I get 13 mpg. I really like that engine and will definitely get another one.

However, due to my job I really do not pay for gas so I could care less what my fuel economy is...

Agreed. Nice to see someone who's realistic about the ecoboost. Some people you talk to would swear it's a 10 second truck.

Rear end gears may have been different and when i had the eagle tires mileage was lower and i run 40# cold now. I thought i would trip my tire sensors but those silent armors don't heat up like most tires. Highest they been was 42#. Cruise control makes a world of difference also......

I ain't saying it don't run.
I haven't put it on a track but I would not be surprised to see high 13s
The torque curve is great.
420ft/lbs 1700-2800 rpms.
Those numbers are close not exact.
I've messed around with plenty other half tons red light to red light.
Burnt most of them. Tundra right there sometimes ahead.
Haven't tested the newest chevy/gmc yet.

well if his 4 wheel drive was a 2 wheel drive like I said mine was then he would have gotten 19/21

no 4 x 4 will get the same mileage as a 2 wheel drive

Had a truck like yours, numbers sound good to me. Some of those motors were on time. Hell I had a 97 2-door Yukon 4x4 with 35" ATs that got 17-19 back in the day. Regret trading that ride in, it was sweet!

ya, I thought about trading it in several times but what stopped me was the gas mileage. it just seamed to me as stupid to trade it in to buy something newer with a smaller engine in it that would get worse gas mileage, regardless of the new tech to increase hp from it.

im always on the road making a few 150 mile trips a week so mileage is a HUGE deal for me

That 4x4 sticker on the bed aint there for show. What i stated is what i get . Your opinion is your opinion. Different gear ratio's and different tires with different pressures means different mileage. Maybe in 2050 they will make you a 30 mpg. truck.

you are right, gearing and tire sizes are a HUGE part of gas mileage which is why 4wd won't get the same mileage as a 2wd version can, because gearing and tire sizes are different along with other things like weight and drive train drag.

Nice looking truck. Do you have a level or lift on it ? That will hurt mileage also.
