Default New 2015 Mercury 50 four stroke?

Does anyone one know if Tohatsu makes the new 2015 Mercury 50 four stroke?
Specs and looks seem very similar.

Thanks

No, tohatsu does not built the 2015 merc 50 hp outboard. That unit is built in China.
Not sure what specs you saw, but,
Tohatsu 40/50
53ci 3 cylinder

Mercury 50hp 4 stroke
4 cyinder
61ci

Thanks

Missed the 4 vs 3 cylinders.
The china aspect certainly concerns me.

Opinions between the two?

This will be going on a 1756 aluminum boat.

I have a Mercury 50 4 stroke and couldn't be happier with it. Strong, reliable, quiet, sips fuel. Can't say enough good about it.

Tohatsu makes the 20 hp and smaller...,my 40 Merc is china made ; which upset me some...it runs well, plenty of power and quiet...it only has 4 hr.s on it and I am thinkin' I may trade it for a 25 E-tech....the china thing on my mind.....

The only problem I had with mine was a blown coil at 423 hours. Sold it with approximately 700 hours still running strong. The only thing I did not like was the water intake would clog up easy in the skinny water, and the lower unit would not allow a screen and hide clamps. I had to JB weld the screen over the intake. My older mercs would pump mud.

Tohatsu builds ALL 30hp and under Mercs, ALL nissans, and now owns Honda outboard division. So most large hp tohatsu's are actually Honda's. Now, are you totally confused?
I had that same unit in a 40hp dress, with standard gear case and 60 ecu. It was a beast. I had it on a 1552 weldbilt, it was stupid fast. Put it on a 556 edge, and it got faster. It finally burned a valve with a tad over 2400 hours on it. 97% of the run time at 100% throttle, hit the 6250 rpm rev limiter over 460 times, guardian shutdown on overheat over 360 times. That is a tough unit. I fished Lacassine and Sabine with it for 10 years, never had problems with the water system. They ALL get hot running in mud! At least the 4 strokes are idiot proof, they shut down before you can toast the powerhead.
They are "high" maintenance. I changed the water pump impeller ONCE in 10 years. Changed the oil, 3 qts of Valvoline full synthetic, and filter, $8.00 at WalMart, once a year. Never burned a drop of oil. They are a joy to operate, turn the key and go. Makes no difference if it's 20 below or 105 degrees, turn the key and go, no choke, no high idle, just like your truck. Mine pumped 25-27 pounds of water pressure at WOT, 4-5 pounds at idle. That's why I only changed the impeller once, the gauge doesn't lie.
