Well that got the topic going...lol. I don't have a current picture right now but the motor trimmed all the way down almost hits the ground. The trailer frame stops right behind the rear axle and some huge bunk boards support the rest of the load. It is a magic tilt trailer. So when the boat is loaded the rear frame and/or roller is under neath the boat about 2 feet or so. When I get back home I'll post some pictures.

I have some pictures today. Where should my boat be on the trailer?

Boat looks right. But the bunks need to be moved forward on the trailer it looks like.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I have never owned a trailer like this. Should I run them up even with the back of the boat?

I would do that. That trailer might not be the original one for that boat.

I don't think it is. I believe the original was a single axle. I just noticed the rear axle is welded 1 inch off center, I need to grind the saddles back off and weld them back on. I changed the lights out to led a few minutes ago and got the engine to turn over. Hopefully tomorrow I'll mount some brackets on the rear boards to tie down to. Now I need to see what to do about the transom saver.

They make an offset transom saver. It has an angle to it. For your situation.

That trailer looks like it is made for a 22' or 24' boat.

How much weight is on the tongue of the trailer? If it is too much, then the boat needs to be moved back.

If the tongue weight is good, I would cut off the bulk board even with or a couple inches shorter than the back of the boat.

If you move the boat back some..... then it looks like the front of the trailer is longer than what is needed. I cut off about 15" off the front tongue on my new trailer when I bought the boat.

Another option would be to move the trailer axils up some, but this might be difficult..... can't tell from your pictures.

Something to consider is......for your size boat and it's weight, do you need 2 axils to support the weight? I don't know the answer to that.

IMO.... the most important thing is to have the correct weight on the trailer hitch.

I can barely pick it up and swing it around, I know it is a couple of hundred for sure. If I move it back I have too much tail weight. I think it is fine where it is as far as weight goes. I might look for another trailer down the road. I will make this one work for now.

I would move the boat back to get some of the weight off of your truck boat hitch. Too much weight on the bumper, takes weight off your front tires, and therefore you have lost some control of your driving.

Thanks.

I picked up a motor to transom brace today. Plus I got the wiring harness ordered. Hopefully within a week I'll be running it.

You aren't supposed to be able to pick up the front of a bay boat. It looks to me like that is right where the boat is supposed to sit on the trailer.

yep you should not b able to pick it up. Leave it where it is. If you move it back, it will b hard to pull around 50 mph or above. Wreck waiting to happen.

That is why I left it where it is, when I slid it back I grabbed the hitch to make sure I wasn't light on the tongue. Once I load it up and ever put too much in the back I don't want to have to worry about it slinging me around. I am pulling this with a 3/4 ton diesel but y'all know as well as I do you can lose one quick. I might build two braces for the front of the boat to take the stress off the roller, I am worried about busting the gel coat there. Thanks guys.

Finally got some part numbers today and found a wiring harness and some other parts on fleabay for pretty cheap. Hopefully I'll have it running next weekend. My momentum got slowed down when I noticed a spider bite on my leg. Back on track now!

I don't know.... the factory motor locks are in the almost upright position.... unless those locks are for something else..... but I assumed they were to lock the motor in place during trailering, AND they seem to center the weight of the motor over the transom..... maybe I'm way off, can anyone clarify??

Actually the Yamaha Wedge condom style saver is warrantied by all major brands of motors. They say is distributes the weight of the motor better, and is actually better than the old style transom saver. I have been using one for 8 years plus no problems.
