Let's talk Broadheads....

It's time for me to purchase some Broadheads.

Give me some suggestions...remember, I just got this bow 4 or 5 months ago, so I know nothing about what I need to get.

Should I get some type of special arrow to go with these heads and do you have to tune your arrow with a Broadhead....

All advice and opinions are appreciated....

Carbon arrows doesn't matter what size. I shoot Gold Tip 5575s. I just started shooting Grim Reaper razor tip expandables. One of my friends is a HUGE bow hunter. He kills alot of deer with a bow and he swears by them. I shot one deer so far with them and was very impressed with expansion and blood trail. If u rather trying fixed, can't go wrong with Muzzy.

We're going to here everything on this. (ford vs Chevy) just remember this.....KEEP IT SIMPLE. Fixed heads such as Thunderheads & Muzzy need to be tuned with arrow fletching, and are less likely to fail on impact.
Mechanicals such as the Rage etc can pretty much be screwed on & shot, but they are mechanical & anything mechanical can fail.

I stick with fixed blades myself. Have some horror stories with mechanical & some with fixed but the fixed blade mishaps were my fault.
Get with me at tourney, some stuff you may wanna hear.

This is what I would do if I was serious about bow hunting. Might as well tune your bow right then it will shoot fixed heads like your field points. No failing a fixed head. I killed a deer with expandables but I didn't feel like tuning my bow and I knew that was going to be the extent of my bow huntin.

Right on about the Ford vs. Chevy deal. I have alot of friends that shoot the Rage and they swear by them. Retrievers is right though, they are pretty much ruined after one shot. The expandable blades anyway. I have always been partial to Muzzy, but thinking about switching and trying something new. Since my wife wanted my bow that I bought last year and told me I could by a new one this year, I think I'm going to go all out. Ain't she sweet.

Not all arrows are the same. Be sure to get the correct spine and properly cut to fit your draw length. I would suggest you find a shop that you trust and have them help you with arrow and broadhead selection/tuning. And just because its the most expensive doesn't mean its the best.

I don't believe in tuning. I never have tuned and my broad heads shoot the exact same as me field tips! just my 2 cents

Hell, just make it simple and go all Bo & Luke Duke on em and strap a stick of TnT to the end of your arrows.

No......but When you put a broadhead or even a field tip spin check it for any wobble or vibration, sometimes inserts don't go in straight when assembled or to much uneven glue on inside shaft will cause wobble & affect accuracy.

I also number my arrows. If I'm shooting tight groups & one arrow say #3 is not in group consistently I'll trash it or pull inserts reglue & refletch & try again

You can get a bad shaft, insert, nock or fletching

I'm going with rage, I shot a variety last year Bloodrunners are bad to the bone but do require some tuning. G5 Mechanicals are nice made out of steel not aluminum. Shot rockets for years they are good also. Rage 100gr 2 blade leaves blood trails that a blind man could follow if you know what I mean. I've also shot mechanical broad heads since I was 14 and I've never had one "FAIL".
