Check and see if the chev / gmc 1/2 tons with towing packages are still known for vibrating.

Get the biggest displacement you can, it will pay for itself in the long run. I don't own an Ecoboost but I have a few friends that own them, everyone of them said they should have bought the V8. I have a 3/4 ton cummins a nd a 1/2 ton Eco Diesel, I love both of them. I haven't pulled a camper with the 1/2 ton yet but pulls my bay boat with no issue. I wouldn't blink an eye at the 6.2 Chevy/GMC, they are pretty solid.

I had a 2013 F-150 4x4 crew max with the 3.5 EB and it pulled my bay boat with on issues. I have no experience with the 2.7 EB which Ford is now pushing even more due to price. BTW, my Ford towed better than my truck I had before it which was a Chevy that had the 5.3V8. I currently have a Toyota Tundra 4x4 CM Platinum and it tows great and even better in tow haul mode. What a lot of people also need to consider when towing close to the max weight is when you need to stop / braking of the vehicle.

I tow a 35 ft travel trailer that weighs around 10000 pounds loaded with an F150 FX 4 with a 3.6 EB. It tows the weight pretty well. The biggest problem with towing a travel trailer with a half ton truck is wind and displaced air from passing tractor trailers will cause the trailer to sway quite a bit at speeds above 55 mph. Make sure you use a good 4 point sway control hitch. I previously towed this trailer with an F150 with 5.4 V8. The EB tows much better !

Get a 3/4 ton gas. Checks all your boxes regarding good towing vehicle with the extra weight, but not the diesel costs. I am in the same boat as you, plan on buying a boat next year and wife wants a camper. I just bought a Titan XD gas.
Check out the video The Fast Lane Truck did with an F150 pulling 11k pounds. Yes, the engine can do it, but you don't want to pull that much weight behind a 5200 lb truck. |

I've seen a few others chime in about the F-150... bought one in February with the max tow package (13,200 lbs) and have to say I've been impressed with it. I've only towed my bay boat so far but found that it tows it much better than my previous truck (2013 5.3L GMC).
P.S. - I'd been a chevy/gmc guy all my life until February when I switched it up and got the new F150 3.5L ecoboost. Never thought I'd own a Ford but have been very impressed! If you decide to go with a 1/2 ton i'd take a look at them |

Had a 2015 F-150 Eco. Towed very well but gave me nothing but problems before 50k miles so I traded it in on a new F-250. If I went F-150 again I would definitely get the V8. I think the turbo on the Eco was going out on mine. If I went Chevy/GMC, I would definitely get the 6.2. My dad has had a few of them and it's a beast. Tundra tows very well also just always hear they get horrible fuel mileage.
I've had GMCs, Chevy's, Ford's, and Dodge's. If I was going half ton, it would be V8 F-150. Just my 2 cents. |

My company vehicle is a chevy 5.3 z71 4x4(2015), and I mainly tow a Polaris ranger around, which it pulls good, but when I hook up to one of our work boats which are probably 8-9 thousand pounds, it pulls like ****. I wouldn't buy this truck and motor combo for pulling anything heavier than 5-6 thousand pounds.
Personally I have a 2013 3.5 ecoboost, and it pulls fantastically, but I haven't hooked anything nearing max load, just my 22' bay boat. I know it pulls significantly better than my 08 chevy 5.3 though. My brother has a 2017 gmc 1500 with 6.2, and my ecoboost will pull on par with it when pulling the bay boat. I've heard of people pulling 5th wheel campers with their ecoboost, and that it did well but no personal experience. |

My old truck was 2006 5.3L V8 GMC
New truck is 2016 3.5L F150 Ecoboost New truck pulls SO much better than the old GMC. I pull a 28' Ultralight bumper pull travel trailer about 2 times per year. The trailer weighs about 5000 lbs and I put my ATV inside of it. |

My Tundra gets 13 city and 17 interstate MPG.
My brother in law has a 2016 Ford V8 5.0 and gets pretty much the MPG as my Tundra with the 5.7V8. |

Thanks for all the info guys. No offense to anyone but I’ve never been an f-150 fan, but I really like the current model. I didn’t even think about the f-150 with the ecoboost v-6 but I will give them some thought and go drive one. As of now I’m leaning towards a GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6.2 or a 2500 gas. Also Chevy/GMC is coming out with the 2019 body style soon so I might wait for that and see how they look.

My opinion of you buy a 3/4 ton get a diesel, you will save money in the long run on fuel mileage and resale.
Bottom line, if you go with the big 3 they are all pretty much the same.....you can't really go wrong. |
