Default Be careful....

Be careful who you let work on your motor. I found out today that the oil injection on my suzuki 25 wasn't removed properly and is probably causing performance problems.

I thought auto mechanics were shady, but the outboard business seems worse. Between the guy that rebuilt this motor and the two shops that couldn't find anything wrong with it I've scratched 3 places off my list my boat will never visit again.

I understand if you don't want to announce the names that you are taking off of your list, but if you don't mind, could you? If you do, could you please PM them to me?

I'm not one to go around bad mouthing people or businesses but I'll share my experiences. I'm sure others have had good experiences at these places so take it for what it's worth.

The guy I bought my suzuki from had it rebuilt by Larry Corbello here in Moss Bluff. That's who removed the oil injection. I couldn't get my boat to run over 28 with this suzuki on it. Took it to Lake Area since they are the suzuki dealer. They said the bottom plug had moisture on it and the compression was 100 psi on all three cylinders, but they cleaned the plug and said it was good to go. Needless to say the boat ran the same after they worked on it as before. Next stop was DHP. I got them to change the waterpump while it was there and they did fine on that. They wanted to run it in the water which was fine by me. One of the guys took it out and ran it and said it felt fine, but didn't have a gps with him. I guess he didn't notice the tach in front of him saying 4500 rpms. I do give them credit for not fixing it wrong, but with a tach and gps reading it should have been obvious this motor isn't performing up to par. After giving money to two shops I decided to look at it myself since I couldn't do any worse than the last two places. I got a manual and checked the ignition system. I've found a coil under the flywheel is out of tolerance on the resistance. Today I took the motor to a guy in Moss Bluff to get the flywheel pulled and he noticed some problems with the way the oil injection was removed that are probably hurting the performance.

To cast a little positive light on this post I would buy a boat from Lake Area. The boat buying end I don't have an issue with, just the mechanics. As far as a good mechanic I've had good experiences with Glenn Beebe at the Yamaha Shop.

Harold Dike off of Lincoln Road is the man, no question, large or small outboards.

Danny Thibodeaux in Moss Bluff pulled it off for me yesterday. He also noticed the oil injection problems.

Harold has cleaned some carburetors for me before and did a good job.

Unless things have changed in the last year, Harold doesn't work on new Suzuki's and doesn't like to work on older ones either.

I know Larry personally,he does not do shady work. Someone is shooting you a line of BS because there is nothing on the oil injection that will hurt performance once disconnected. Ignition problem with either the stator or trigger under the flywheel will.

Thanks. I was trying to get it all in there without writing a novel. I've got three things I need to do to this motor and it should be running better. I feel much better since I've finally found things actually wrong with it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

x2! I'd recommend this guy to anyone. He's legit! I don't think he works on Mercs though. I've brought my yamaha's to him and he was quick, thorough, and honest. "He's good peeps"..lol

I know how you feel, I bought a motor from a boat mechanic, it ran and I got my ear full of things that they did to it pre-sale. I ran it for a while, then it started to run bad during the afternoon but great in the a.m. I brought it to another mechanic wh is 30 miles further, when that mechanic was done, re did the carbs , fuel diaphragm, changed plugs and checked out other things with it, I has never ran soo good since I bought it.

It's gonna be hard to find someone to do better work than Glenn Beebe at the Yamaha Shop.

Anything I can do myself I do. About the only thing I haven't done is a full motor rebuild.
