Default Solid Day of Cocodrie Trout 6-18-14

This year seems like a roller coaster in regards to trout fishing and it has been one of the toughest challenges to locate a decent sized school of trout. One day you catch 100 and the next two days you find 1 or 2. The Last Island and Timbalier Island areas have been very fishable over the last week. The water is emerald green in most places and with weather like today, you would think a limit would be easy this time of year. This morning I brought live croakers and shrimp along hoping to increase the odds of catching. Our first stop in Terrebonne Bay looked perfect. From the first few minutes of daylight til about 7:15 there was a good bite and we put 20 fish in the box with live shrimp under a cork being the top selection. We hung around til 9:00 with only 1 more fish to add. Bouncing around different wellheads provided no further success except a few sheepshead. At 12:30 I made one last ditch effort at a place I've never fished before. By this time the tide was dead slack. Evidently it didn't matter to the fish because they were chomping and there was a lot of them. Somehow, catching them wasn't too easy because of the seemingly ever-present hardhead catfish. When the smoke cleared and the bite shut down, we had 61 nice keepers! Big thanks to good customers Dr. Nick Hatzis and Channon Campesi for the good times!
