Xpress HD or HD DB
Any one ran one of the Xpress HD jon boats? I have fished from the x-19 bass and its nice and fast but i have been looking at the HD16 or HD16DB with a 40hp. It looks like a really tuff and fast boat and should do good in shallow water but I am wondering just how fast. I don't mean just the standard xpress jon.

The HD hull is rough on your azz even in a 1' chop......I had one and got rid of it and got the X bay with the hyperlift hull.....This is basically the same hull as the X19 bass boat. I know the hyperlift hulls are more in cost but they are well worth the extra cost unless you pretty much strictly marsh fish.

Performance and xpress flat bottom should not be said in the same sentence. Your alweld is a much better hull.

couldn't get it to lift up and run right going straight without porpoising i like the weld craft semi v better than xpress or alweld |

Also look into the sea ark hulls. I know a few people with them and they are built like a tank!

alrity then, thats why i asked. i have looked at them and they look tuff but i knew they are heavy weight but didnt know how they ran, back in the late 90's xpress made an open hull jon with the hyper hull just like the big bass boat, wish they would agin, has anyone ran the excel boats?

LaAngler, how did you feel the weldcraft compared to alweld? To me all the factory boats are so close i dont realy see where one would perform better then tthe next

6 of one, half dozen of the other really. My alweld was 15x42 .80 thickness hull with a hopped up 40 yamaha, i felt the stringers were smaller/weaker. The torque of the engine formed a concave shaped bend where the transom brace welds into the hull. (this is from porpoising & general abuse)
The weld craft ran better and felt stronger to me, had a better coating/paint, it was a 15x48 .100 thk. which means quicker to plane and just as fast. Not knocking alwelds. If I were buying i'd look at the marshrunner2, but thats only b/c it fishes so much quieter, but i think the aluminum would last longer. |

my alweld is the 15x48 .100 allum with performance tunnel and i like it ok, i went and looked about 2 weeks ago at the marshrunner and realy liked it but i run into size issues. i want 16-17 by 48 and he dont do that size or else i would have one right now, i fish marsh, river and lake so i need width for stability and would like length for more distance from the idiot in the back with the 8ft rod

i have plans for a bigger boat in the future not sure what rout i will go bass or bay but lookin at replacin my curent boat till then. i have a place on toleda bend and we make trips to s. tx bass fishin so i lean towards bass but i live here in south la and a bay would do good both places for the big water so i will just have to choose that later.
