Default Joseph Harbor Boat launch Close 4/2-4/17

It will be close April 2 through April 17, 2014

http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/news/37534

Release Date: 03/27/2014

March 27, 2014 -- The Joseph Harbor boat launch at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Grand Chenier will be closed from April 2 through April 17, 2014. The closure is necessary for a construction modification that will extend each back down ramp at the launch.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is making these modifications to allow the public to launch in low tide conditions. The Joseph Harbor boat launch and parking area, off La. Hwy. 82, will be closed to all boat launching and public activity during the construction.

The East End Locks boat launch, also accessible off La. Hwy. 82, will remain open for recreational boating activity on the eastern portion of Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge. Once the Joseph Harbor launch construction is completed, the East End Locks boat launch will then undergo the same modification to extend each back down ramp with similar modifications.

Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge is located in eastern Cameron and western Vermilion Parishes. Recreational opportunities on the refuge include shrimping, crabbing, fishing and bird-watching. For more information, call 337-491-2000 or go to http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/refuge/...ildlife-refuge.

They should have made it longer to begin with. They could have also widened both launches just a bit. Everyone knew it was a screwed up operation at the time...at least they're correcting the length.
