Default Father's Day Dularge

I've got the greatest kids in the world. 12 YO and 10 YO daughters asked me what I wanted to do for Father's Day. I said go fishing. They said go with your friends, we can go another time. No whining, no obligations. I see them all the time.

So I went to the camp in the middle of nowhere, ate some hard, but still delicious select crawfish, had some refreshments and hit the rack relatively early.

Woke early, early and found a west wind just enough to make it uncomfortable. Went back to bed. Woke at 7:30, still blowing, put some sweet rolls in oven, fiddled around, watched some TV, looked up at 9:00 and no wind blowing. Time to rally the troops!!

Half hour and some hemming and hawing later we were under way under the blazing sun. I don't like going out that late in the AM, but decided I needed to get over that. Rode over a glassy inland lake, hoping for the best.

Arrived at first spot with plenty boats and a few fish being caught, but we were on the outside looking in. Didn't feel like elbowing our way in on the action and decided to go long.

Twenty minutes later we were on location. Fish started small and picky, but steady bite ensued. We stuck it out, made the most of it when they passed through and slowly filled the box. Had a few good runs, but for the most part they were biting funny. Plenty of missed strikes, but some nice fish that filled a 60 quart to overflowing by the time 2:30 rolled around. No limit, but around 50 total and beat it back towards the camp in a building chop.

Fun catchin' trip that almost was just a camp trip.

Got the only shot halfway thru the cleaning. All fish on soft plastics with 1/4 oz jig heads.
