Default Specks around Mermentau

Hey guys, new here, just found this place.
My inlaws have a place on Grand Lake and I have only been down a few times. I'm planning a trip next week and would like to catch some specks and reds. I have caught some reds in the lake before, but I think it is too fresh for specks?? Where do I need to go to have a chance at specks south of the Catfish Locks? I am thinking the jetties at the mouth of the river, but I really don't know.

Any help and info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
420 Racin

i talked to some guys last year that were catching a few midriver. We catch a few by chance while redfishing the river, but not many. Have not caught many at all at the jetties. If you want to target specks only, I would get some live bait and go hit the platforms out of the pass. There is one right out of the pass that is in 25' of water and then some more to the West.

Well we want to catch reds too, but after/if we get a limit of them, we want to be able to catch somethig else. I will try that platform out to the east. You can see them on Google Earth, the closest one is about 2.5 miles southeast from the mouth.
How does the water salinity affect the fish. I found the website for the NO District Corps that has the salinity levels. I checked some historical data and have found that I have killed the reds in Grand Lake when the levels were low compared to what they are reading today. I guess with little to no rain there is no freshwater coming in and it is gettin saltier??

Anywhere to buy live shrimp around Grand Lake??

Thanks for the info guys
