Default Beers and boating
I'm new round here but been doing a lot of reading in the various forums. I've noticed quite a bit of reference to having beer while fishing. What gives with the legalities of this? I love beer and would love even more to have a couple on the water. Problem is all of the guys I know refuse to have any alcohol whatsoever on board. They say even having it on the boat is illegal. What is the law on this? And by the way I'm not talking about getting hammered or anything just a cold beer or so while fishing.

You can have it on the boat and you can be drinking, but you must have a sober operator.

My view is that the operator should not be drinking. The legal limit is likely 0.08 (just like driving), but to me, operating a boat is much harder than driving and a lot more things can go wrong quickly. Consequently, I cannot in good conscience drink while operating a boat, nor can I recommend it for anyone else.

OK for passengers though.

Some federal water's it's illegal to have in possession ... In the corp. of engineers Bonnet Carr'e spillway I saw where it's illegal to have on a boat....And yes it is on many boats and they really don't check but ??????

Watch riding with open containers, and have a sober operator. You can get a DUI driving your boat.

most GW's are very understanding on this issue. But if you are acting like a drunk, expect to get treated like a drunk. At least that's what i have seen.

I had one of the members here and my brother on my boat. LOT'S of cans in bottom of the boat. Man in green didn't want to believe me that i had not been drinking. I drink bourbon . Not when out in the heat or driving anything.

I don't know what gw u been dealing wit but most I've had dealings with if they see a 3 week old empty Rollin around in the boat they try to pin a dwi on me. I might just have a target on me because Chris hoag the Sabine refuge agent tried to pin a felony of burning the marsh on me and my buddy. Only thing I can't stand more than a cop is a gw.

GW around Myrtle Grove, Port Sulphur are easy going, once again, as long as you do not or are not trying to hide something. They're good at sensing something wrong and that forces them to dig a little deeper. The Coast Guard is pretty much the same way, at least from what I have seen from them.

Good luck and yes I have beer on the boat from time to time, but the navigator is always 100% sober.

I think this is correct.

I'm not in trouble until a gw lies and accuses me of a felony. So I guess a crackhead would be more useful.
