Default venice specks snapper grouper

took a last second trip to venice wednesday. conditions were slick till about 9 am and then the wind picked up a little . we got to breton islands at 6:00 in the morning and caught 40 keeper specks on plastic (had a sand eel/ devil eye fish off ) they equally caught fish but i did manage to pick off most of the bigger ones on eels and the brown lure devil eye while the 2 others with me fished with minnow style plastics . then the white trout and 50+ dolphins moved in or stumled in they were eating so much trout it was like they were drunk smashing into to each other ect.. so decided to find some deeper spots outside of the sound and found some rigs in 44 ft of water we caught 2 red snapper , 1 lane snapper threw it back, a bunch of bull reds threw back, grouper were mostly undersized but managed to keep 3 that were legal, and kept a sheephead only cause its guts were hangin out his a hole when we brought him up!! we caught the fish in the deeper water at the rigs with medium action rods and curados! probslly got broke off 10 -15 times each!!

get there early and use big baits to weed out the white trout they are everywhere but the water looked beautiful and tons of bait was present. good luck

we were hoping the same we fished some in 30 ft of water bs block 53 i think and no snapper just huge lady fish and redfish it seems like 40- 50 was the magic number thats where we caught the biggest varity inclubing red snapper i belive if we would have went out a little farther we would have caught alot more snapper and if we werent using our trout gear to haul snapper outta the platforms . i had a horse on alsmodt took my rod st croix from me held the spool and i ran toward the back of the boat fought him for a few and he got pissed enough and made a run for the legs of the rig . i think we are gonna try again befor the season ends if we can find a slick day cause it makes for a miserable ride back in a 22 bay boat otherwise
