HR&G Nightstalker
Plan to bring along some deer sausage and Sonnier's boudin to throw on the grill for a mid fish trip snack along with several ice cold miller lites for good measure! Went last year a bit later in the summer and caught 90 trout by 11:00 PM. Hope to have a repeat performance!!!!!!! |

LOL, we had a heck of time couple years ago with "the nightstalker". Paided $1200 and we had to cook and feed ourselves.
Went out , and Capt Boogadie anchored up and he climbed in the top bunk and went to sleep.Never even walked out to show us anything , tell us anything. Had a good deckhand he was young(16) at the time and helpfull at the time. I believe it was a nephew of the owners. We caught couple fish maybe 2 -3 wind picked up and we wanted to move. The young deckhand was scared to wake up the captain. He woke him after we told he we needed to move and he woke up not happy about being bothered. We moved farther into westcove near rabbit island. He sucked up trash in one of the motors and engine broke down. We where down to one engine. We anchored, he crawled back into bed,,our bed I thought that we paid from. And yes, it was uncomfortable for the 3 ladies we had with us. They didnt fill comfortable going inside alone, or while he was sleeping. We never got another bite. Come 2am , we asked to move again and he said no, its time to make our way back to the dock. We crawled out on one engine and made it to ship channel. Then we ran out of gas! Now both engines down and we drifted south and made our way onto the bank. Capt Boogie or whatever his name was, called the lodge and asked someone to bring us some gas. Whomever was on the other line, I dont know if they where so asleep they didnt know what he said, but the said no, we will not come till after daylight. He said they will bring us gas in the morning and he went back to sleep. I COULDNT BELIEVE IT. So there we are , stranded on ship channel in the dark. So , we talked about where to get gas, and we decided to sypine out of the generator off the top. The gas tank was so rusty that we cut the fuel line off the one motor that was working and shoved it into a empty generator gas can. We crawled back to the dock, where the other guides where leaving for the morning. We went into the office and talked to the owner and explained everything that happened. He asked did we catch any fish? We said yes, we have 5 . O well,,, $1200. True story, IM sure they are great guys and things happen. BUT we where willing to pay half of the $1200 , he got angry , and we paid the full. Ill never forget that till the day I die. Went with other guides sinces. He lost a client. And the problem is , Im good friends with some of his friends. I feel like he owes us another trip to make up for that one. Maybe Im wrong. By the way, this is not the same boat, it was Mark Thompson's boat , the leased it from him , couple years ago. |

That's horrible! I've had a couple bad guide experiences in the past and it sux to give your hard earned money to someone like that. A guide can never guarantee a kill or a catch, that's not what we're looking for. I just want them to try their hardest. A guide does not have to give away a trip at a discount because of lack of success. But, if they do offer, it tells me a lot about the and secures me as a client

Everybody has bad days, but the owner should at least done the trip for cost. But, as with all big operations, they can afford to absorb the blow of a bad experience and the corresponding negative word-of-mouth.
This is why I always patronize smaller guide outfits. Quality control is just too tough for operations where the management is always looking for "anyone-with-a-license" to fill in for the latest unemployable loser who was too hungover to get out of bed when 4:30 AM rolled around. |

As an updste to this, I clearly can't speak to what it was like there years ago. The company is now owned by the three brothers and everything there had been rebuilt. The boat is a new boat and the captain you speak of no longer works for them. Captain Jason runs the night boat and he will work his but off for you. He loves fishing and watching cutomers catch fish to much to go to sleep.
Although I have my own night boat I cannot fit everyone on it so I book with them at least one to two days a year. I would not put a group of proffesionals (cpa's) with anything but a first class operation. |

Who was the owner back then? I thought T Shaughnessy sold it a while back?
