Default Public Launch in Hackberry

Where is this at?

The Cameron Parish Police
Jury has applied for a coastal
use permit to replace a boat
launch on the ship channel at
Hackberry.
Approximately 260 cubic
yards of material will be
removed from the old boat
launch area and deposited on
a thin layer on the adjacent
land.
The 16’ wide boat launch
will be replaced with a 24’
pre-cast concrete boat
launch. Approximately 160’ of
walkway around the boat
launch will also be replaced.
Adjacent parking areas
will be resurfaced with 86
cubic yards of crushed stone.

It's owned by the parish and it is on the ship channel.
There is a big walking track just South of them big nice
houses and camps. But I am not sure about a launch.

It's not easy to get to: Coming from Sulphur on Hy 27 take a left on Old Town Rd, then take a right on Magnolia Rd, then a left on Channelview Dr, then a right on Channel Dr and follow it around to the launch. You actually launch in the water that goes right by Hackberry Rodngun, Dugas landing and Joe's Cove. We used to have a camp at Dugas.

Turn across from Browns grocery & follow the signs down Channel Dr.

Its in the same cove as H/berry Rod & Gun & Dugas landing on the very north end of the cove.

Yeah its either Dugas Landing or the one right by the Hackberry side of the ferry. That one is a dump and right on the ship channel.

Dugas landing is horrible!!!! & shallow!!!!!!!!! The public landing is a little better & in the top of the cove just above HRG zoom in on the map & you can see it on Channel dr.

this is the launch i use most of the time, if i am staying overnight at my uncle's camp. u take a left right past browns and its back there right off ship channel. it is right next to my uncle's camp and yes it could use some work. the docks around it are almost nonexistent anymore from the last hurricane i guess. it is dangerous in the dark getting in and out a boat around there.

That is the walking track I know of. I just didn't know there was a public launch there.
Looks like it will get fixed up pretty soon.
I know they are trying to get some federal money from some kind of act that John
Breaux started for the one by the Cameron ferry. It will get fixed up sooner or later.

That ferry launch was a great place at one time.
On weekends, a lot of offshore boats launched there.
It started getting shallow, then they had a new ferry
there for a year, then the hurricanes hit.
They are working on getting it fixed, the parish don't
have any money to do it. And there is no more tax
base since most people and business left after Rita.
They are trying to get federal dollars to fix it. They just
have to justify so much to the feds.
