Default Dularge Report

Well, after a long overdue posting, I sit here and type with a smile on my face. I spent most of last week entertaining friends and family on a large hog hunt on my farm which was a blast, but wore me out. More on that later!

We left Crowley on Wed. night and headed to Fisherman's Retreat across from Falgout Canal. We spent all day Thanksgiving eating and drinking and watching football. Friday morning, my kids were driving me nuts wanting to get in the boat. Our first stop, Deer Bayou, produced a few fish, but it was sporadic. My dad was in his boat and had 17 fish, when we met up with him and I had 15. We had split the crew up and decided that the water was pretty, and if the tide would run, the fish would turn on.

Boy, am I glad we decided to stay put. After about an hour of drifting a reef, the tide started to move in, and it was on!

We sat there and smoked the fish on a DOA under a popping cork until we didn't want anymore. A 144 to be exact!

All fish were 14" -16", which was fine for me. Returned Friday and repeated the process, but took us a little longer to get them going. I moved to a small cove where a pipeline canal came in and started throwing a Berkley swim bait. I did not catch as many fish, but hte size was way bigger.

We ended the 2 day trip with 237 trout and 5 reds, so I filled the freezer and can now continue fishing without looking for fillets!

Thanks guys!

I was gone so long, I screwed up on my days in the original report. We fished Friday and Saturday to just be clear on that!

And "yes" - I did find a picture of the "squat"! Here's to you "W"!

Most of them down there are built like that! Very nice, and only about $300 more than just using "runners" to pick up the boat. Makes it nice for cleaning, etc.
