Default Sabine NWR navigation

I have been fishing with family down in hackberry to holly beach for a few summers now. I need some advice.

I have noticed that everyone appears to go east from the boat launches off hwy 27. They head toward calcasieu River and lake.

But, why don't people go west from hog island gully or west cove launch into Sabine NWR and marsh? I would think that area would be good for redfish and crabs. Are the canals too shallow for say a xpress bay boat?

Any advice would be appreciated.
Joe

Some canals are okay but some are very silted in, even some main ones. I think there are certain times of year when you cannot fish or boat the main canals (Oct.15-Mar.15).

Do a search for the Sabine NWR and you can find the regulations.

that's because most people are nice, and don't like dirty things and good times. the only things that way are huge fish of all species that bite on only topwater at any time or tide movement, no game wardens, and the banks are lined with beautiful women that don't wear clothes and applaud for you every time you catch a fish, or open a beer. so, go that way if your some kind of sicko and into that sort of thing...
