Default Tragic Hunting Accident

This is just a senseless accident. We all know the rules of safe hunting and this guy did not follow them. Guys, please be careful while hunting. Let's make this the only hunting related death this year.

***********************************************
A Jonesville man was killed yesterday morning (Nov. 13) while hunting on Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge, the Associated Press has reported.

Rod Gordo, 63, was killed instantly in the incident, the AP quoted State Police.

State Police said 52-year-old Boatner K. Smith of Jonesville – who works as an officer at the Catahoula Correctional Center – allegedly shot Gordo when Smith fired at something moving in the brush, the news outlet reported.

The accident is under investigation by State Police, but Smith has not been arrested, the AP reported.

Tragic and incredibly stupid! I hate it for all involved but, that is throwing common sense and hunting 101 straight out the window! Why would you even think of shooting at a target that you can't identify?!

when you shoot at an unidentified target it is not an accident. charges should be filed.

Agreed.....I hunt with binoculars and If I want to kill then I pick up my weapon. This is pure stupidity, sadly this happens way too often. The shooter was a police officer, use some common sense!

He should have been arrested on the spot if he just shot at something moving in the bushes. Just plain stupid.

To make matters worse, the man that pulled the trigger is a sheriff's deputy - thus the LSP was called in to handle the investigation.
