Got any tips on rigging? Is ballyhoos needed in the skirts or will bare skirts work? What about the arti ballyhoos? |

Mahi will hit almost anything once you find them. Ballyhoos help though.

Dude, sell your boat and get a charter w/ Capt. Moran - guarantee you will come out ahead!
Yes, anything will catch them, I catch them along grass lines and debris all the time. In Florida, we actually used the radar to find them, since the birds were over the trash/fish. Once you learn what to look for on the radar screen, it's on like donky kong! We also tore up blackfin pulling plain skirts, they would not touch a "hoo" that day. Some days they want dead bait pitched to them on a spinning rod, other days you need to be pulling Islanders at 6knts! You just got to try em'. |

The Contender holds 300 gallons in fuel - can you hang with me? I will be in the 80-90 mile range looking for 200' of water.

I have had tremendous success trolling for mahi mahi with Bird rigs along grass lines. I like pink or blue/pink. the more noise the better. Also stop along any 5 gallon buckets, 55 gallon drums, tarps, grass mats, stand by buoys, whatever debris you find. Dolphin hold close to these things.

Wouldn't It make more sense to drive an extra hr and a half launch from cocodrie and be in 4000 foot of water at 80-90 miles
