I like the WSM in both of those calibers. Although the 7mm WSM didn't become very popular.
On an A-bolt Medallion with boss my 7mm WSM is a very accurate gun that does not kick. |

it's all personal preference and what you are comfortable shooting. i have owned and taken animals with both and my preference is the 7mm especially for deer size game. At the end of the day it all boils down to how accurately you can put bullets down range...

I have killed 75+ whitetails in my life and 90% of them were killed with either a 300Win or 300WSM. I don't like to trail em. I have also killed elk, antelope, and mule deer with them. Most drop in their tracks. Good all around caliber IMO. WSM makes the rifle alot smaller, lighter, and easier to carry than the standard 300. I have an a Bolt 300 and an a Bolt 300wsm and the weight and length difference is night and day. I have a BOSS on my WSM and Win. My 12 y/o nephew has killed 2-3 deer with it. No recoil at all but it's LOUD.
7mm is a good round too. I have just never owned one but know lots of people that do and love em. |

im kinda partial to the 7mm wsm cause thats what i shoot a lot and have shoot a few cow elk with it and had no problem also shot one with a buddys hs precision 300 wsm this gun is sweet but also cost him about 4.5 k between gun and scope also knocked some down with a .270 i would get which ever gun has more ammo available at your local outdoor store i would also stock up on ammo both are good calibers imo

ballistics
the ballistics on a 7mm ultra mag are impressive, nice flat shooting round, may want to check that one out, it will be my next deer rifle purchase

Have both, in wsm. The 7 is incredibly accurate! With the 300 rite there with it. Both are coming out the muzzle at over 3000 fps with minimal drop at 300 yds dialed in at 1.5 in high at 100 yds! My 7wsm is a browning X bolt, and my 300 wsm is a tikka t3 light! Neither kick like the old 7's or 300's both are much sharper punches. The seven likes the 160 nosler accubonds and the 300 uses the 150 ballistic tips. The trigger on the tikka is the crispest I've ever felt at 2 lbs, and the bolt system is flawlessly smooth! Although the browning is a little more compact and feels better in my hands. Thr trigger is also crisp at 2.5 lbs and the bolt is smooth, but not like the Tikka! And to top it off the Tikka was $419 after season sale, and the X bolt was $799 before season sale! You really can't beat the Tikka for the price, the only Delima is they don't make a 7 wsm only 270 wsm and 300wsm, with that saying the 270 wsm and 7wsm are soo close in ballistics it stand for reason the 7 is out numbered by 270 . I also have a 7wsm that is an A bolt that was a deer killing machine until I egged the barrel one evening taking a shot in a down pour! Don't know exactly what happened but it destroyed a perfectly good tac driver at 100 yds! We took the last 4 inches off of the barrel were the egg was and re crowned it and made it a tree stand gun even though surprisingly it still shoots 2.5 in groups out to 200 yds. It is my favorite to carrry stalking or climbing now that it is soo compact! It was by far the most accurate gun out of the box I've ever cheeked! On the 5th shot breaking the barrel in when it was new it was putting bullets inside of already shot holes at 100 yds!
To sum it up if you ever have any expectations of hunting anything other or bigger than southern whitetail the 300 will offer a Lil more punch with heavier grain bullets, not saying the 7 is not capable with proper shot placement because it is a hammer and my personal go to meat stick! I like to use the 300 when I hunt open pastures or shots 250 yds plus! And yes my properties allow such shots sum of which are up to 400yds with deer being shot every year over 300! Good luck with your search, I wish it was me with your Delima! Can't ever have enough toys lol! |

Sako 7mm mag is a great all around gun. It is a long distance, flat shooting, and very accurate gun. This gun is the best all around gun for North America.
