Default NMEA 2000 Network

Has anyone connected their Yamaha F150 to their Lowrance HDS through the NMEA 2000 Network?

I am wondering what kind of data to expect out of it.

I have the parts on order right now to hook mine up. Should be here early next week. Gonna build a NEMA 2000 backbone and connect my HDS 7 to my Lowrance.

I have a 2014 Yamaha F150. You will need one of these...

NMEA Network Starter Kit, Model 124-69 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002BBFE98..._nWy4wbKC94X1G

And you will need a cable to go from your motor to the NMEA 2000 backbone. Not sure which one though. I found my Yamaha cable on Amazon also.

It will give you rpm, water preasure, voltage, temp, and trim. You can add additional connections that show fuel millage and other options.

This is some what off topic but still about the NMEA. When I bought my boat it came with 2 old Lowrance LMS models with the separate GPS receiver (small white round hub). It has a NMEA system that I assume linked all the units. I bought 2 new HDS units last year, and the plugs for the power and sonar transducers were the same as the old LMS's, and worked also. So instead of running all new power and transducer cables I just used the existing ones (still have not installed the sidescan module and transducer though). BUT, the existing network plug does not match to the new HDS inlets.

Would I need to buy a whole new NMEA system, or could I just buy the new NMEA plug that fits the HDS's and be able to share data between the 2 HDS units? I don't think my motor is even compatible with it so not too worried about that (2003 Johnson 150hp). I'd just like to be able to share way points between the two units and only need one navionics chip.

You would have to find the t connection and see what it looks like, but I would bet you would have to buy a new starter kit

With new lowrance you can just buy a graynetwork cable and link them together, you don't need a nmea network

O really? Does it have to go through the structure scan hub or just directly from one unit to the other?

Hey alphaman, I also found out that you can hook up a fusion marine radio through the network, so that's also in the plans.

It allows you to control the radio with your Lowrance HDS.

Yes it you have a structure scan box it runs from there to t.your front unit of which ever one is not hooked to it. On the radio I have the sonic hub in mine with an Alpine amp best thing I ever did eliminating the cd player radio.

I have my HDS units networked with a grey cable and it works pretty good. I mainlu use it to get sonar data from the console unit.

In your picture you have red connectors. Lowrance has a red to blue adapter. they convert the older N2K Networks for use with newer units. Below is a matrix of what you can and cant do that is about 3 yrs old. they have made some changes in firmware updates since then.

Got it all hooked up except for my water pressure. I'm waiting on the sender to come in. All in all pretty easy, and well worth the trouble.

Nice!

Wish I could do that. Since I have a merc, I need an gateway $300 to adapt smartcraft to NMEA2K so i put in a smartcraft tach. I get the same info but in a single gauge.
