Leupold is my favorite. And no that's a good range for deer.

Scopes are only as good as the mounts! Any decent quality scope will handle 300wsm recoil, just make sure you have good quality rings & bases. 300wsm isn't that terrible on recoil.

x2 Leupold mounts are your best bet. I have a Browning A Bolt 300WSM and I have a Zeiss Conquest 4-12x50. Got it for $500.

I think when I haven't used Leupold, I've put the three ring steel mounting rig on Encores and Contenders. I've also been known to put four steel rings on slug guns and heavy recoiling muzzleloaders. But two good steel Leupold rings is plenty for a .300 magnum. |
