Anybody cancelling Grand Isle trip?

I am contemplating cancelling my Grand Isle trip for early June due to the uncertainty of the oil spill. I spoke to some folks that have are already cancelling plans and have heard they are getting less than gracious responses. Refusal to cancel and refund deposits to not answering calls or emails. Anybody else hear any of this?

last time i checked the stae waters west of belle pass in fourchon and south of the fornation islands in timbalier bay are closed due to the spill . But the fornation islands themselves and north is open to fishing. There was also oil on fourchon beach when we were there last friday . The beach at grand isle and elmers island should be smokin this comin week and if the winds lay down and the the water in catfish lake a chance to clear up the redfishing will be on fire

That is why we wouldn't cancel. I'm sure all of the out of staters and CNN watchers are canceling like crazy but we are still going as long as we can fish. **** Bob caught a nice limit today over there... I need those coordinates Bob!!

We got word this evening that oil washed up on Fourchon beach today. Not tar balls, not a sheen, but as they described "heavy oil". Not sure what will happen next. Here is a link to one story:

man, its a good thing we were told by "oil experts" on this site, that this would not hit land or marsh, and would be cleared up by august with NO LASTING EFFECTS

Man, I know that there will be some people down there hurtin' for a buck, but if I'm going to go, I need to be able to get my fishing fix. I'm not cancelling my trip to GI in July till I know for sure I can't fish. I have an Offshore charter and will also be inshore/surf fishing for a week. It's a shame that it's come to this. I feel badly for all who enjoy and have livelihoods where the affected areas are. But if I can't fish, I'm cancelling and going elsewhere for my vacation.

I canceled my trip and have changed my mind back and forth a few times.......Made some calls to reserve a room AGAIN, and everyone is booked up.....was hoping to get out there before the oil, but looking at the pics Ray just put up, I'm not sure it's gonna happen.........I wouldnt cancel you reservations until you are POSITIVE you arent going.........

Elmer’s Island is just west of Grand Isle. Wayne Keller, Executive Director of the Grand Isle Port, called to advise that oil has hit the beach on Elmer’s Island during the night. Wayne has been working furiously with the National Guard to temporarily close the open breaches on Elmer’s Island. He also reports that they finished closing the second breach late last night. These breaches were the result of hurricanes and strong storms over the past few years and were openings from the Gulf, across what used to be beach into the marsh on the back or northern side. The closure of the breaches should protect this large marsh on the backside of the beach.
