Great fishing on big lake

Southwest Louisiana as well as Lake Calcasieu remains OIL FREE from the worst oil spill in the history of our nation. BP continues to pump heavy drilling mud in the spewing well to stop the flow. Our prayers and concerns are with our brother fishermen and businesses as the oil continues to come ashore.

This was a super week of fishing here on Lake Calcasieu. Good catches of big trout as well big numbers of big redfish and solid trout between 16 and 22 inches were caught on plastic as well as live bait. TTF’s killer minnow seemed to be the best bait and the best colors were the EAST BEAST and OPENING NIGHT. Anglers throwing big top water baits like Mirrolurs’s SHE DOG and TOP DOG were rewarded with some solid speckled trout up to 29 inches over oyster reefs. Bone and Chrome proved to be a great color. As the waters of the lake get warmer with the summer heat fish will move into the deeper areas such as the jetties and along the ship channel. Kennel up.
