Big Lake 6/6

The weather finally copperated (somewhat) for Josh and I yesterday and we took full advantage of it. Caught a nice mess of fish on Glow / Calcasieu Kryptonite Jerk Jr's, topwater (badonk-a-donk), and yes even a poppin cork - I was having too much fun once we found the fish that I could not resist the cork. Key was finding the shrimp, which wasn't hard because the fish were busting them all over the place.

Everywhere we went the water was beautiful, with the exception of the beach as we made a run way down south to try and find seclusion from the bozo bird chasers.

For those of you who haven't done so, stop by Cocahoes and grab some food and some cold beers. The hamburgers yesterday were awesome. People keep asking, and yes, Cocahoes has live bait!

I ate 4 sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches Sat., they's good when you are fishing all day.

I wish I would have stayed to fish sunday...

It was pretty calm on SUN morning. We picked up 17 keepers on top water. Average fish was about 14". Also, we actaully caught 8-10 that were too small to keep on top water. We fished a few groups of birds; nothing but 11-1/2" trout.

Before we left the landing, we got a few cocktails at Cocahoes downstaris. I did not go upstairs but from what I saw the place is nice.

When you go with allstar you have to factor in the P stops. Also he doesn't know how to make a run without having to stop and do a #2 as well. You must compensate by leaving earlier.

Here is a pic from our outing.

BTW, get ready for visitors from the east as a lot of our oil affected neighbors are fishing Big Lake due to water closures. We ran into several lake newcomers at Cocahoes. Patience will go a long way this summer on the lake.

report

me, Shawn and Matt went out Sunday also. Ended up keeping 22 trout. Caught a ton of 11.5" or so under birds. And some MONSTER gafftops (Shawn is king gafftopper). Most caught on the south end of the lake. Had a couple of guide boats fishing live shrimp that were catching a lot more than us. Most of what we caught was on the gulp glow shrimp or chatreuse mullet. Had a bunch of blow ups on top water but they weren't eating it.

If we all would have pulled our wieght, cough, chough (Shawn) probably would have had about 100 or so. :grinpimp:

Just messing with you
