Is there a place where you can catch crabs inside Big Lake ? I know you are not supposed to fish off of the weirs so where can you catch them ? Thanks in advance.

There may not be anymore signs, but you can see the posts where the signs used to be.
If you go under the 210 bridge, there are plenty of crabs there.
We have friends who caught there a couple weeks ago. Close to a launch.
They were crabbing off the back of a boat, just upstream from the bridge bollards.

So if I understand correctly you can go through the weirs and fish anywhere, but you cannot fish within a certain distance of the weirs ??? Is that correct ?? Oh...... Sulphite, where is Joe's Cove ? I have never heard of that before

There is private property behind the weirs. You can fish anywhere on refuge property. You can see signs when you get to private property at most places along Grand and Lambert Bayou's.
If I were you, I would look at a map before you go back there.

I used to get ran out of there all the time. I didn't get in any trouble, they would just run me outta there. They might be more strict now. Haven't been back there in few years though.

The crabbers who fish on Miami will tell you you are on Miami Corp. land.
If a Miami Corp. bastid catches you, they will give you a lot of ****.
They have had people fined for trespassing if they get the numbers off your boat.
The private land owners who are just South of Lamberts Bayou will tell you to leave.
They are not big *******s like Miami Corp.

Usually along the ship channel down around the wash out and 9 mile cut you can catch some crabs. It is best to catch them when the tide is moving the water.

Holly Beach side of the ship channel where the canal flows into the channel.
