Saw the pink dolphin today

A buddy of mine and I decided to make a quick trip to big lake today after having worked the last three nights. That quick trip ended up being all day trying to find fish but we couldn't buy a bite. Had a good time though. Saw the pink dolphin today, snapped a photo but it came out a little fuzzy.

Cool......thanks for the pic..

I thought it was gone. No one has been reporting any sightings till now.
Usually you see it more when you cross the ferry.
None this year.

Well it was close. We were at the south end of Monkey island when we saw it. We trolled around for about 20 minutes and saw it several times. It's just hard to catch a picture in a split second when you don't know where it is going to pop up next.

Cool, Glad he is still around. I took my granddaughter fishing one time, she saw pinky and that was the end of my live mullet, she tried to get pinky to eat them. You will let grand children do things that you would never let your own kids do. She had fun.

Just an observation on your picture.......

The fin does not look as pink as I have seen in other pictures. Has the fin color gotten more gray?

Also, in this picture "Pinky" looks small. Is that just due to the camera and how far away it is from where the picture is taken?

I got to see Pinky out by the jetties about a year ago. She was on the west side and then ~ 2 hours later, she was out by the mouth of the channel.

Nice. I've seen it twice. But have never gotten a pic.

That thing is camera shy

The pink one I have seen was always a smaller one. I have seen it in the channel and east of the jetties a few times. It was a while back though.

When we first saw it we were only about 50 yards away from it, but by the time I got the camera out it was at least a hundred yards away. I had to crop and zoom the picture just to make the fin large enough to see. If I had to guess its size, I'm guessing it to be 5 or 6 feet long. I probably took two dozen pictures trying to catch it, but my el cheapo camera is not very quick when it comes to catching unposed pictures.

Pinky

I saw her last week. She appears to have grown quite a bit since year. She was by herself.Last year I saw her several times although she was always with an adult.

I was wondering if they separate at a certain age or if something happened to the adult...

Country Boy 07-17-2010 11:53 PM

my friend Evans saw it not to long ago by the jetties

How you know IT is a SHE? Would it be blue if it were a male albino dolphin?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I saw it last May about 5 miles down the beach early in the morning. Three hours later it was in the channel heading north.

I read that from a report that a LDWF Biologist wrote about a year ago. Don't know how the sex of Pinky was determined.

Dink 07-18-2010 08:29 PM

Brother saw it today......got a few pics of it....

I wonder why noone has started a PINK DOLPHIN EXPEDITION company yet? This is one very rare dolphin. You'd think some entrepeneurial cajun with a 6 pack license would get a pontoon boat or something and set sail in search of the elusive PINKY! One could imagine charging $650 or so for the boat for a 1/2 day cruise. Maybe could get 4 trips in on weekends. That should pay for some bills? ????

haha, you're right, it is a wonder no one has done that yet.

good to hear. Had someone asking me the other day if pinky was still around. I hadn't seen it yet.

Last July I was coming in from JB and the wife starts screaming "Stop, Stop!!!", I thought we had run over something or someone. Pull back all the way and ask her what the hell was going on. She says, "Look, Look, it's the Pink Dolphin"!!!:pissed: It was pretty cool once I got the crap out of my shorts. Saw it one more time last summer but have not been fishing the ship channel much this summer.
