Shark fishing?

Tossing the idea around thinking I may want to give shark fishing a shot. Any of ya'll ever done it? Would it be worth my time?

eman 07-17-2010 02:59 PM

It's only fun when ya do it from a yak!!!!

trophytroutman 07-17-2010 03:44 PM

Never fished for them but have caught a few and its fun catching them, especially wade fishing.Thats when I caught mine.

They hit the shallow rigs during the hot summer.

bohunterbiff 07-17-2010 05:03 PM

a lot of people have told me they catch a lot from the beach. Is it possible to drift or anchor 300 - 500 yards off the beach and fish for them?

eman 07-17-2010 06:42 PM

yes it is! we have anchored 200 yds off ship island in mississippi and caught sharks and jacks till the reels were shot.

ray is right...i love catching those sharks find you a well lit up rig and you will be able to see them coming in... chum for them if you really wanna get them in a frenzy.

How many rods can a kayak hold?
One of them yakers has like 20 rods on his bote.

Chris Havoc 07-18-2010 02:02 PM

that one holds alot!!! pretty sure they were just using the yak to run the lines out past the bars.

I used to go out to seabrook in lake pontchartrain and chum up bull sharks at night in the kayak. Talk about a sleigh ride when you get hooked up. I use 80lb braid on roller rods and 375lb twisted steel leader. Chunk out a mullet gut punched and hold on because you are going for a ride.

bohunterbiff 07-19-2010 06:06 PM

So when is the best time to target sharks?

Asterisk-Rich 07-19-2010 07:18 PM

ive had alot of success at night at well lit rigs

Feesherman 07-20-2010 10:47 AM

Sharks are the hardheads of the ocean. I hate em!

This time of year is great for sharks. Find jetties or shallow rigs and use a cut mullet and hold on. I know in GI at the close rigs you can catch all you and until your arms fall off.

bohunterbiff 07-20-2010 06:58 PM

Guess I will watch the weather and head to the jetties this next week and see what I can do.
