reel up keep

after going fishing do you just rinse your reel off with fresh water or do you also relube everything.

I lightly rinse off and dry my reels after each fishing trip.

I oil my reel bearings every 3 to 5 trips.

I take my Curado apart and clean / lub it every 6 to 9 months.

Diawa has sealed bearings. I grease the other stuff once a year

speck-chaser 07-24-2010 10:05 PM

rinse every time, and spray down with silicone spray.

dont spray them too hard, because it can force water into places that its not suppose to be

the best is to just set them in a bucket of water for a few minutes then let them dry well

Shimano does not recomment doing this.

Thanks for the link gerold.

awesome link, thanks Gerald. I printed it up and will keep for the next time. Thanks again

Gerald 07-25-2010 02:20 PM

I am supprised the instructions did not say anything about cleaning the piece that "moves" [clutch plate] when you push the thumb bar down. Or the linkage that works the "anti-reverse" part of the reel.

These areas get "cruddy" and need to be cleaned to keep the reel working smooth.

Reelman told me to take a 409 type sprayer with a little bit of Simple Green and water and spray the reel and wipe down with a clean dry rag.
That's my new thang, unless I drop her in the water.
