Boat Prop
I have a 19 ft. fishmaster (travis edition) with a 2003 Suzuki DT150 2-stroke currently turning a 3 blade SS 20 pitch prop 5100 RPM 50 MPH. My holeshot is not what I would like it to be. Does anyone have a similar setup? What is the max RPM for this motor? What prop are you running? Thanks.

Suzuki? Your low on rpms for sure,in return slows the holeshot. If its a 2 stroke you need to be around 5500,4 stroke is 6000.

You will need to get to at least 5800 rpm trimed up running full throttle. Dealer told me if I dont get my motor that high I can shorten the life alot. He said that it will strain the engine all the time. My motor is in shop for that reason since my injector is dirty and it needs a flush. I ran only 5200. Lost top end.

google search some Zuke stuff.......
I have the DF300 and factory calls for 6300 at top end. I really likes the higher Revs..... Now keep in mind, the Suzuki props are 16 inches in diameter. That is a BIG deal. I am running a 17 pitch prop on the DF300 maxing a 6100 RPMS getting 46 MPH and this is on a big sled so your numbers will be, of course different. if you stay with the same DIAMETER wheel, generally one PITCH size will increase you 175-200 RPMS smaller pitch will increase your holeshot like Montauk said. the Suzuki/prop "pro" IMHO is www dot propgods dot come |
What does a smaller pitch do to top end?

it depends,
if you can't twist the big prop then you are not getting max MPH any way. so in this case you may actually see better performance. google "prop speed calculator" assume a 10% "slip" and take a look at what you have. I have given up on top speed, but I've been blessed to own a few Allison's back in the day so it's out my system. when fishing, set that bad boy to rocket out the swamp with a load and fish on!!!! |
