Truck air conditioner
 

I have a '96 GMC Sierra that i'm kinda fixing up for a hunting truck being that my honda accord is not suited for such an endevor. It is miserable to ride in because of the lack of a/c. I have recharged the compressor with freon. and it worked for about two days and the safety switch prevented it from continuing to work as the freon leaked out... So there is apparently a crack in the compressor... i would really love to not have to replace the whole thing... does anyone know of anything i can use to find the leak or plug the leak to save me a couple of hundred bucks? if anyone has any personal experience or tips or product names it would be greatly appreciated... you can get the r-134 with a die in it then check it with a special light used for the die...could be a simple as some oring's or a hose, then you would have to bring it to a shop to pull a vacuum on it to remove all the atmosphere and recharge

Yep and you easily have the same problem with that one.

Where do you live commander? My mechanic gets some great deals on new, not remanned compressors! Way cheaper than factory and better than reman!

Get the dye to try to locate the leak. The leak may not be in the compressor. Your AC system is made up of several componets all of which may be the problem. It is also possible that you over filled the system with freon. Those model year GMs are notorious to pressure switch problems. Try tapping the switch on the can looking part under your hood with a hammer or wrench. That may be your whole problem.

Wal Marks has some nice window units...just put it through the back glass.

You can get R-134A with leak detector and you can get it with leak sealant
in it also. Might try that before spending a buttload on repairs.

Autozone got sum stuff called super seal it works pretty good

keep in mind them cans at the parts houses arent cheap, keep pissin it away and you've already spent what someone may charge you to find the leak at a shop just my 2cents??? maybe check around someone in ya area that might locate the leak for you, you fix it them havem charge it

i might have a buddy that can help me out with that

it may end up being cheaper for you in the long run then wastin 20-30$ a can and still not be able to find the leak

you couldn't just get an adapter to plug into your cigarette lighter?
