Trolling motor
:help:I dont mean to start a huge debate, but I was wondering what other people that fish alots opinion is . My 36 volt 101 minn-kota trolling motor is on the outs. It is 6 yers old and will cost about $250 to repair ribbon. I'm thinkin of just buying a new one. What is the pros and cons of the minn kotta vs the motor guide 36 volt and what u would do. The motor has average use.

I made a couple of phone calls to get price of a new control board. Was ~ $ 125 for the part for my 55 # Rip Tide. I looked on the net and found the part for a little under $ 100. This TM control board also comes with the "ribbon" wire connected to the handle. Other control boards that I saw sold for $ 60 to $ 90 so mine cost more that most that I saw while looking for mine. To replace.....you just have to take the cover off.....make a drawing of all the wires [so you can put it back together....might need to lable wire with some tap]. Then you just take the wires off the old control board, remove the control board [the handle slips off] and then reverse the process to install the new board. This took me maybe 2 hours because I worked slow. If yours is just the "ribbon"....maybe it is build a little different. Take the cover off, and look at it. |
250 is alot cheaper than 1200 for a new one.

Me and gottago took it apart and fixed the ribbon but something went wrong and it went crazy. I will take it apart again and look at it. I just didnt want to keep spending $ on it. Good job for this windy day!!

just had mikes trolling motors fix mine, ended up being the module, which is what I think you are talking about. I have the same trolling motor and about the same age. Mine is a 3x steering. I went ahead and fixed it, but next time going with the ipilot.

I took the $hi* apart and found a part fot $175 on puter. I will call local place (DHP) he might have a t. motor that was junked and I might get it for parts. will order monday if not. Such a crappy design!

Heres what you need to know about trolling motors..............If salty or ASR tell you to get a certain brand, get neither.........They're both JUNK!!!!
|
I see both minn kota and motorguides broken on a daily basis. They both break, you can get a lemon just like anything else.

I just ordered a control board from Minn Kotta and it was $160 with shipping. This will come with a new board, Ribbon and complete handle with switch. It was same price as other sites on the net.

I alway check there when needing something. Amazon.com also usually has very good prices on many things. |
