Do you throw away shot Deeks?
I have about 4-5 doz Deeks with holes in them. I am thinking of throwing them away, but thought I'd see what you other duck hunters do with your leaking deeks... uh... decoys. Some are manufacture seams leaking, most are from the various projectiles intended for the dispatching of wounded/ crippled ducks. Yes I will admit it, some are from water shot's...a dead duck is a counted duck! anyway, I have tried to use silcon, various glues and other patch type adhesives. They still leak.
What do you guy's do with your water filled decoy's? Repair them... chunk em... or sell them at the next garage sale. |
Throw um away. Too much work to repair
great stuff foam and a drill bit
Give them to Tim!!!
My policy is--If you shoot 1 of my decoys you buy 1 dozen!
i use vulcum on BB holes, works great
drill a hole in the bottom of decoy...use great stuff foam fill it a little let it expand and viola...

I've thought about the GREAT STUFF before, just hadn't tried it yet. I think I'll load em up and drop em off at LeFluer Lock Co.:rotfl::*****: |
Bring em!! I need em
Cut the end of the tail or beak off to drain water.
Seal all the holes with black RTV. Don't invite decoy shooters back to your blind. |
Y'all quit telling him how to fix them, I need decoys!!
I buy cheap decoys. Towards the end of the year go to Academy; they put them 30 to 40% off and they are cheap even at list price. I usually buy 2 dozen a year. To me, if you buy the cheap ones, they are not worth fixing.

I usually only dispatch wounded birds on the water, several of my friends with young kids will shoot their first duck on the water. I have had most of these for several years. I will shoot 1 round to jump a group that lands outside the deeks if they start to swim away from the deeks.
I use the foam also, but I don't let anyone shoot ducks on the water......unless it is a kid, then I tell their dad they owe me $30 bucks!!!!!!
It is harder to kill a duck on the water than in the air with steel shot.
If you shoot on the water, the freakin bb's cover the duck, then it jumps up and flies off. If you shoot again in the air, it will fall. Steel shot suxx on the water. Only way I have ever seen steel shot kill on the water is if all 3 hunters shoot at the same time. Waste of shells though. |
