Really hate hearing this, what a good spirited man he was. I noticed that I haven't seen him on the boards or facebook in a while.

RIP Capt.! I wonder if he still had his black lab, "Odis" That was his deer huntin buddy.

eman 12-18-2010 10:58 AM

Jlt had to put odis down a little over a year ago. Some of his friends got him a new lab puppy. That was his new fishing buddy and companion

So sad to hear this. He was a great friend and will be missed. If anyone stayed down at his lodge in Buras he would teach you anything you wanted to learn about fishing and his cooking was incredible. The bungles we had at the lodge were crazy! God bless

Never had the luxury of meeting the man but, may God rest his soul and help his family through this difficult time. From what I'm reading, the world really did lose a great man.

Never met him but did enjoy his posting on different boards. He always seemed like a real stand up guy. Sorry to hear of his passing.

A few weeks after Odis was gone......JLT wrote a tribute to Odis that was really good. What a great dog he was.

JLT will be missed by all that knew him.

I never knew this gentleman but he was nice enough to respond to an email and share his redfish on the halfshell recipe with me and it was awesome.

RIP Capt.....

Capt JLT was one of those guys that you just show up at his lodge and he would tell you the world and cook ya dinner. Last time I went down was a couple months ago and he was begging me to spend the night to go fishing. He took me out to eat and was persistant on me staying. He was very passionate about up bringing of kids with fishing and the outdoors. You would mention anything about a childrens charity and he was all ears and ready to go head first with it. Otis his lab was a trip. Every trout that was brought in the boat he would bite the head off.

Don't jerk, just reel. How many times did i hear that .
I was a pilgrum till he saw me walk the dog around a stick up w/ a top dog.
John and i hit it off from day 1 because we both knew that teaching kids to fish and them getting an education are the 2 most important things in life.
Toasting my departed friend tonight. Cheers JLT and i hope Odis was waiting for you at the bridge.

The funniest story JLT told me about Odis was on a charter. He told me he had a husband and wife charter. They no sooner hit the marsh and the lady had to do number 2. He dropped her off in the marsh and she stood by the bank in the short grass. He backed the boat away to give her privacy. No sooner she squat Odis jumps out the boat runs over and jumps up and knocks her down in her own crap and marsh mud. He said that was the fastest no paying charter he ever had.

eman 12-18-2010 09:40 PM

She squated and odis thought she was duck hunting, LOL

If tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things, we didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me, as much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready, in heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad,
I thought of all that we shared, and all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized, that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories, would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things I might miss some tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through
heaven's gates, I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me, from His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity, and all I've promised you.
Today your life on earth is past, but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last,
And since each day is the same way, there's no longing for the past.”

So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me, I'm right here, in your heart”

RIP, my friend.

Capt. JLT was a friend of mine who i had worked for some over the years. He was a great person and great fisherman. His health was bad for a few years and wasnt expected to make it this long. He was a fighter. He is now in a better place where I know he will watch over all of us fisherman as we are out there doing what we all love. My heart goes out to his family. He will be missed. Thanks for the memories capt. you are gone but will never be forgotten. He was and always will be a LEGEND in my book.

I feel sorry for anybody that didn't.
My children called him "Uncle Capt. John" haha.
I loved the guy and I know he was always in pain but he fished all day, went to bed early and got up even earlier in the morning to have everything ready for whomever was staying at the lodge.
He did this in severe pain and most of the time bad health.
But,he did it with a smile and a laugh no matter what.
I miss him.
