Water anchor?

Anyone use a drift sock? Are they a hassel? Or, 90 % of the time you can drift just fine without one? Looking at possibly getting one.

they are good for really windy days when you need to fish slow

Reel Bender 12-29-2010 10:32 AM

I got one for my boat but have never used it. My boat drifts pretty slow already.

I did use one in another boat on occassions.

If you boat drifts too fast, you may want to try one.

So, 90% of the time you won't use one... because most times you aren't out there when the wind is kicking anyhow?

depends on you... I dont have one but ive fished on days when i wished i did

used them drifting the reefs and they work great. they can slow your drift but they can also be used to change the angle of the drift and the angle of the boat while drifting. Takes a lil practice but you can set up your drift where the drift socks will keep your boat at the optimum angle for every one to cast to the fish.
But you need 2 drift socks to really do anything besides slow down your drift.

Use one and like it but I fish out of an 18' aluminum flat. Without it, even on a not so windy day I jet across the reefs too fass.

get a power pole and a t-top, it helps slow you down..

i have 2 driftsocks , i use em drifting canals that are deeper in hopedale ect in the winter when the tide is rolling out , if you use it properly its a great help if it is shallow enough and im driftfishin i use my power pole barley scraping the bottom to slow it down what size boat u have ?
