I need advice

A buddy and I are planning a trip down to Venice for a few days fishing, but I need some advice on a few things.. I want to primarily fish for Reds and Trout but may allow a day for an offshore trip.
I need a recommendation on a good guide, lodging, and the best time to go. The calendar is wide open so times really dont matter. We are planning to take our spouses so lodgings dont need to be luxury but at least clean. any input would be appreciated.

Offshore = May!!!!!!!! Tuna, dolphin, wahoo, and a shot at a marlin. Come back and stop and catch your amberjack and red snapper and maybe a cobia. Overnight trips are awesome, and a very good shot at swordfish if you are interested in that. Venice is very close to the shelf so short ride to the fishing grounds. Several guides to look into, but Peace Marvel is the man if you can get him. Not sure if he is advertising, but he is the man. Can look up Venice Marina or Cypress Cove Marina and they can shoot you in a good direction. Awesome place for fishing. Trout and reds should be very good in May also.

Peace is probably one of the best. just remember he is not reel peace charters anymore.

Are the wives fishing? If not then Venice isn't where you want to go cause there is nothing else to do there. Try Grand Isle if this is the case

Is this the young guy that fishes out of a contender? I saw a show with this guy on it, seemed luke a real nice guy who knows his stuff!

Hopedale Hustler 01-17-2011 11:24 PM

Hunter is amazing...dude knows what he's doing

fishribs 01-18-2011 12:06 AM

really guys I appreciate the input. the wives will be fishing also so the only entertainment that is needed is strong drinks and good food in the evening. If anyone has the contact info for Mr. Peace or Mr. Hunter please forward it.

fishribs 01-18-2011 12:13 AM

also, I guess that we are not locked in to Venice but I understand that the fishing is pretty awesome and we could tie in a trip to N.O.

Same with grand isle, but with more night life.......hunter is great!! But his boat is way underpowered.....when your paying for gas, that's an issue......just sayin

When I fished Venice we chartered Shane Mayfield. He runs a Blackjack boat and really knows his stuff in the wagon wheel. Make sure you take food for your room. Theres only one little convenience store down there and it aint cheap.

Here is Peace's number 504-858-8862

The fishing is great in both Venice and Grand Isle the main difference is that Venice is a fishing destination and Grand Isle is a vacation destination.

fishribs 01-18-2011 09:25 PM

fishing is the priority
